ThyroSafe protects your family from nuclear emergency

Recip
Who Is Recip?
A privately owned Swedish pharmaceutical company, Recip AB, is quickly becoming an American household name. Recip manufactures and distributes ThyroSafe™, the trade name for their potassium iodide tablets, that prevents cancer of the thyroid caused by radiation following a nuclear and other emergency.

In such an emergency, radioactive iodine is released into the air in what is known as “fall-out” which may be breathed in or swallowed. The thyroid gland needs iodine to control metabolism and regulate growth. However, the thyroid gland cannot distinguish between regular iodine and radioactive iodine. If radioactive iodine has been released into the atmosphere by a nuclear emergency, it will be absorbed by the thyroid gland. But the thyroid gland will only take in a certain amount of iodine. If harmless iodine fills the thyroid gland, like ThyroSafe™ potassium iodide, there is no room for the radioactive iodine.

That is how Recip ThyroSafe™ protects you and more importantly, your children from developing thyroid cancer after a nuclear emergency.

Recip has been supplying European countries with potassium iodide for many years. After the 9/11 disaster, an American division of Recip was established in the United States to bring Recip ThyroSafe™ into America. Today, ThyroSafe™ is the only FDA approved potassium iodide tablet that comes in the child appropriate 65 milligram dosage.

ThyroSafe™ tablets are 65 milligrams each and are easily recognized on the shelf by its light green/yellow box. In case of a radiation emergency, and upon notification by local health authorities, children aged three to eighteen take one tablet daily. Children 1 month to 3 years of age take one-half tablet. Neonates under 1 month should take one-quarter tablet. The tablets are cross-scored for easy breaking. Adults over eighteen years of age take two tablets daily. Local health authorities will inform you how long to continue taking ThyroSafe™.

Recip products, which include pharmaceuticals, food supplements and herbal medicines, are sold in Sweden through the state pharmacy. Recip’s introduction to the United States, ThyroSafe™ potassium iodide tablets, will be distributed by Recip US, and sold in food and drug chains.

Recip is a member of Euralliance Farma, a European alliance of independent pharmaceutical companies, which markets over-the-counter medicines and para-pharmaceutical products. Potassium iodide is a very important safeguard to European lives and it should provide protection as well as some peace of mind to Americans who are at risk of nuclear radiation should a nuclear emergency occur.
